Supporting Trust Activities

New members are always welcome! Benefits include the annual news-sheet Warp & Weft which features items of textile industry interest; advanced notice of events run by the Trust; some reduced fees and the opportunity to become involved in the Trust's projects. The Trust promotes awareness both of the long established industry that shaped the communities and landscape of these beautiful valleys and of contemporary textiles.

Our membership includes people who worked in the industry, textile artists, historians and people who are simply fascinated by the story that can be told. There is the opportunity to run machinery, demonstrate your own textile skills, learn and research the history of the area and to share in the activities of an active and innovative group.

The Trust runs a programme of mills openings as well as skills workshops, talks, exhibitions and other events invented by members.

The membership year runs from 1st September.

The current membership rates are as follows:

Ordinary membership £10.00
Family membership £15.00
Overseas membership £15.00
Group / Corporate membership £30.00

Volunteering for Trust Activities

Members are encouraged to volunteer. There is a great and continuing need for:

  • volunteer guides and machinery demonstrators at the mills. Besides learning some of the detail of the rich and varied local story guides meet new people who often have interesting stories of their own to tell.
  • demonstrators of textile skills at schools, shows etc. The Trust has over the years visited, or enjoyed visits from, over 40 schools - some of them many times. It is currently developing new educational programmes.
  • stewards at exhibitions and events run by the Trust.

The Trust will be very grateful for the time you can spare and you will be supporting the Arts and Heritage of the area.

To find out more about membership or volunteering, please contact Jane Ford the Trust’s membership secretary using the form on the Contacts page.
